Diane 8-18-2011

Contentment “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:11 Paul, denied of every comfort, wrote the above words in his dungeon. A story is told of a king who went into his garden one morning and found everything withered and dying. He asked the oak that stood near the gate what the trouble was. He found it was sick of life and determined to die because it was not tall and beautiful like the pine. The pine was all out of heart because it could not bear grapes like the vine. The vine was going to throw its life away because it could not stand erect and have as fine fruit as the peach tree; and so on all through the garden. Coming to the heart’s –ease, he found its bright face lifted as cheery, as ever. “Well, heart’s –ease, I’m glad, amidst all this discouragement, to find one brave little flower. You do not seem to be the least disheartened.” No, I am not of much account, but I thought that if you wanted an oak, or a pine, or a peach tree, or a lilac, you would have planted one; but as…

Diane 5-25-2011

What a rich time of Christian Bible study, fellowship, sharing and prayer – every Tuesday about 20 women from the congregation gather to look into God’s Word. What I love about this group is the age range – it is from young 20s to the seasoned 80s. The sharing, the praying, the fellowship with these incredible women has been so rich. We’ve been through Kelly Minter’s ‘Ruth’ series, Beth Moore’s ‘Stepping Up through the Psalms of the Ascent’ and now we are ‘Pursuing More of Jesus’ with Anne Graham Lotz. And, we’ll move on to ‘Me Myself & Lies’ by Jennifer Rothschild. The Lord is also letting us serve together – we’ve delivered meals to local business owners. We are wanting to serve meals and visit with our District office officials. And, we have a vision to start contacting certain women of our congregation that may need Christian love and support and friendships. What a privilege to be a part of this amazing community of Christian women and wonderful place God has brought us to. I’m so looking forward to what He has for us as we continue to invite friends and grow in our Christian friendships and the strong…

On Tithing and Giving - January 2011

January 14, 2011 -- On Tithing and giving Since Pastor Bob is teaching on this subject for the next few weeks, I thought I’d share my testimony about tithing and giving! I’ve learned a lot about giving since asking the Lord, “How do I tithe?” in a desparate prayer in 1989. It was a time when I had the most debt and was most financially unstable. I was a mom to a five-year old and very desparate for help. The pastor of the Assemblies of God church in Wayne, New Jersey, had an awesome message that following Sunday morning – he said, “if you can’t give 10 percent of your income in tithe, you have too much. Get rid of something.” He said that when you tithe, the 90 percent goes further than any 100 percent. It is God’s economy and that is just the way He works. He also explained that 10 percent is from the top, not after taxes income. I appreciated the answer to these questions I had! My first tithe check bounced. I am embarrassed to say, but I was living paycheck to paycheck. I had the right heart, though, and continued to give and that…
